Stress is a significant problem for society, so there is a lot of recklessness and illnesses. You cannot avoid stress; however, what if there was a simple way to manage it? There is, and that is through meditation. There is a day dedicated to that, which is World Meditation Day.
May 21st is the day that urges you to take time yourself to meditate because it is World Meditation Day. Unfortunately, stress is part of life whether you are dealing with work-related stress or financial-related or family-related stress. You cannot avoid it. The problem is that if your stress gets too difficult to handle, it can cause negative consequences for your physical and mental health. You will accumulate too much cortisol in your body, which is the hormone secreted when you are under stress. You need some cortisol to function, but an excess of it will cause weight gain, increase your chances of diabetes and heart disease.
The buildup of cortisol can also impede your thyroid function and metabolism. The way you manage your stress can stop your cortisol levels from accumulating, and the best way to do that is by meditating. Meditation helps to clear your mind and puts your body on a pause to reset it. Through meditation, you will begin to get better when it comes to mindfulness, and it will help you stay calm even during times of crisis. All you need to do is start meditating for 15 minutes a day, and you can eventually scale it up.
The History Of World Meditation Day
There is no clear connection as to how World Meditation Day landed on May 21st, but mediation goes back to 1500 BC in India, as discussed in written form back then. Since then, meditation has become a part of people’s lives regardless of religion or spiritual background, even though it is tied to Buddhism. However, over time, meditation was the method for keeping calm during difficult times, and recently the discovery of meditation is good for you. Since it provides medical benefits regarding physical and mental health, doctors tell their patients that they should incorporate meditation time into their daily routines.
How To Celebrate World Meditation Day
You should meditate daily to reap the benefits, but on May 21st, set aside time to do that in a comfortable room, and be in a comfortable position, and remember that there is no right or wrong way to meditate. Read up on meditation and find a method that works best for you. You can create discussions about it and its benefits on social media. Don’t forget to add #WorldMeditationDay in the post.
