World Laughter Day

What makes you laugh? And when you laugh at something, how does it feel? Did you know that laughter has so many benefits to your health? It is not only good for your mental health, but it is great for your physical health too. There is a reason to celebrate having some chuckles you will want to do on World Laughter Day.

May 2nd, you will want to have a good chuckle at something, as long as it is not at the expense of others as it is World Laughter Day. This is the day to enjoy laughing and learn about the benefits that laughter can bring. You already know it is good for your mental health as laughter can help raise serotonin levels in your brain, which is the happy chemical, and it helps balance other brain chemicals. When your mental health is better, your physical health benefits as laughter can help lower blood pressure and help lower stress levels. Not to mention, it just feels terrific to laugh.

Why not go and read a funny book or watch a funny movie. Do you like slapstick comedy? Because that is one genre that will get you laughing. Look at some funny memes as well on social media. That can get you chuckling. You don’t only want to take advantage of finding sources that can bring you comedy and laughter on the day, as you should do that daily. There is already enough stress and sadness in the world, so bringing in some laughter and fun is needed regardless of what is going on in the world around you.

The History Of World Laughter Day

World Laughter Day became a thing in 1998 by the founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement, Dr. Madan Kataria, in India. He wanted to establish the movement because of working on the facial feedback hypothesis as that shows that facial expressions affect mood. The purpose of the day is to laugh to improve health and help bring world peace through positive manifestations through laughter. The establishment of the day encouraged laughing clubs worldwide to pick it up, and it quickly did, as Los Angeles was the first one to do so. Now there are over 105 countries that celebrate the day as they have laughter clubs.

How To Celebrate World Laughter Day

That one is easy. Go watch a movie that makes you laugh, or read a book that makes you laugh, or tell a funny story to make others including yourself laugh. Why not share a funny meme on social media and use the hashtag #WorldLaughterDay in the post.
