World Hypertension Day

When was the last time you checked your blood pressure? When was the last time you have been to the doctor? You want to ensure that your blood pressure is normal because hypertension can cause you plenty of severe health problems. You want to become aware of it on World Hypertension Day.

May 17th urges you to examine your blood pressure as it is World Hypertension Day. Hypertension is high blood pressure, and there are many causes for it, including a high salt diet, obesity, and medications you take can also cause high blood pressure. If you are in a constant state of stress, that also can be the culprit for hypertension. You need to be mindful of your blood pressure because you could end up having other complications such as cardiovascular disease. If your blood pressure is consistently high, then you are at risk for heart disease and stroke.

When it comes to hypertension, many people who have it are not aware that they do because it often does not present any symptoms. However, it can start to prevent symptoms if your blood pressure is dangerously high, including frequent nose bleeds, especially if it happens overnight when you are sleeping. You may also deal with fatigue as well. High blood pressure can also increase the odds of diabetes and vice versa, which also can increase as a result of obesity. A poor diet with unmanaged stress and inactivity are culprits for those diseases. Days such as this are there to remind you of the importance of keeping normal blood pressure.

The History Of World Hypertension Day

The purpose of World Hypertension Day was the increasing awareness about high blood pressure and its dangers. The World Hypertension League or the WHL wanted to organize a day to know how to watch for their blood pressure. The first day happened on May 14th, 2005. However, a year later, it was set to May 17th. Since 2006, World Hypertension Day has been on May 17th of each year. The WHL provides lectures on hypertension on that day each year only for the sake of people understanding how they could have high blood pressure without knowing. Therefore, they will need to find motivating factors to start getting checked. The message went out to people who do not go to the doctor to get annual checkups as that can be a dangerous thing to do.
