When was the last time you showed appreciation for the nurses, doctors, and other healthcare workers? Perhaps during the pandemic, you showed appreciation for them because you see how much anguish they have been put through for the past year. However, the pandemic will not last with vaccines on the rise. You want to show healthcare workers worldwide appreciation they deserve on World Health Day, in addition to all other days!
April 7th is the day to think about the sacrifices that healthcare workers worldwide make for you, as it is World Health Day. World Health Day is celebrated each year as the World Health Organization (WHO) and other organizations sponsor this day. The WHO supports this international day in addition to ten others as well. The purpose of this day is to spread awareness about global health as well as general public health issues.
Each year, World Health Day highlights different themes for 2021; this international day’s theme is building a fairer, healthier world. The pandemic highlighted that some individuals could have better access to healthcare and live healthier lives than others. It all has to do with where they live, where they work, their age, and social status.
The reality is that many of those who have an unfair disadvantage of barely being able to make ends meet suffer from many health problems because of not having proper access to healthcare. Therefore, that leads to more suffering and them dying prematurely. Even though the pandemic hit every country hard, it took its toll on countries and families that live in impoverished conditions who could not get access to healthcare. Working together to help everyone get equal access to health care is the focus of this year’s World Health Day.
The History Of World Health Day
As WWII was coming to an end, in 1945, UN diplomats convened to discuss setting up a global health organization. Then fast forward to April 7th, 1948, the WHO’s establishment occurred as it held its first assembly. After 1950, on April 7th of each year, the WHO celebrated World Health Day. Not only is the WHO’s founding marked on that day, but the purpose is to bring awareness worldwide about a pressing health issue that affects everyone in all countries of the world. The WHO organizes events to commemorate World Health Day every April 7th of each year.
