Ugliest Dog Day

You know that someone who has a face that only a mother could love means that someone is quite ugly; that does not only apply to people. That applies to dogs. Some dogs are ugly, and they cannot help it, which is why they need to be celebrated on Ugliest Dog Day.

June 20th is the day to give your dog that may not be the cutest in the world lots of love and pets as it is Ugliest Dog Day. What makes a dog ugly? Maybe the breed has something to do with it, as some breeds of dogs are not as ‘cute’ as other breeds, but those who think those ugly breeds are cute would disagree. That boils down to it being in the eye of the beholder. However, some dogs are simply facially challenged. What do you do about them? Love them just like you would love any dog.

Dogs that are facially challenged may have a difficult time with adoption as well, and should that matter? Should that matter if the dog is full of love and kisses, even if they are not the cutest things around? Humans can be quite shallow, so, unfortunately, cuteness is something that many people want. However, if you own a dog that is not the prettiest or more handsome pet you have, then kudos to you for giving that dog a good home. Be sure to take them on lots of walks and give them plenty of space to run around so they can have the fun they need.

The History Of Ugliest Dog Day

The Ugliest Dog Day day emerged from a contest held in Petaluma, California, that began in the 1970s. That was part of the Sonoma-Marin Fair, and the point of it was that judges would decide which contestant dog was the ugliest so that the owners could win something. In 2017, prize money increased to over $1,500 and included was a trip to New York City that was free of travel expenses (except for the time during the pandemic). However, the ugliest dog theme has been around for a long time as other contests have been held since that time. Therefore, why not have a national day for that?

How To Acknowledge Ugliest Dog Day

You can make a slideshow of ugly dogs that you see online and share it, or you can raise money for homeless pets, or donate to a shelter. Do you dare to hold a contest and give the winner something you can afford such as a Starbucks gift card? If so, share it on social media by using #UgliestDogDay in the post.
