Today is your lucky day because workout and mobility events will be going on in 1,000 locations around the country. They’re all great opportunities for working out and getting to know some other senior citizens.

Dozens of health organizations play a part on this energetic day to offer senior citizens the opportunity to move their bodies and try something new, from aerobics to yoga.

There’s no reason you should stop exercising after you reach a certain age. In fact, if you keep your body strong and healthy, chances are you’ll suffer fewer degenerative diseases and enjoy a healthier, happier life.

History of Senior Health & Fitness Day

The Mature Market Resource Center (MMRC), in Illinois, is the organizer of both the Mature Fitness Awards USA and National Senior Health & Fitness Day.

May 26 is the 27th annual Senior Health & Fitness Day and is the most important day of Older Americans Month. Health-oriented organizations come together to encourage an active lifestyle for senior citizens of age 50 or older, and over 100,000 senior citizens take part in the celebration of a better life.

This is the largest older adult health and wellness event and happens all around the country in over 1,000 locations, including parks, retirement facilitates, both public and private.

Senior Health & Fitness Day has become gain popularity with senior citizens and their families. There are now two events a year, the official date on May 26 and a fall event on October 27.

How to Celebrate Senior Health & Fitness Day

If you’re 50 years old or older, today is the day to get moving. Join a spinning class, do yoga or just walk around your local park. If you’re younger than that, then help your fellow senior citizens be part of this celebration of wellness.
