Scream Day

Scream! Because April 24 is Scream Day. Yes, that’s a thing, and it’s entertaining. Blow off some steam and get the stress out with the loudest and most out-of-the-box therapies — screaming! Learn more about this special day here.

You might look like a mad person, but you should scream at the top of your lungs more often. It’s literally one of the most effective ways of relieving stress, calming anxiety, and feeling better overall.

This is what Scream Day is all about, a relatively recent awareness celebration created to give people the opportunity to scream without being judged.

Chances are you’re not screaming as often as you should. And we’re not talking about going on a rampage, but about releasing all that frustration, anxiety and stress just to feel a little better. You’ll actually feel a lot better after a shouting ‘therapy’ session. And the best part? You can do it anywhere, from your car to your bathtub.

When you scream, your body releases endorphins or the ‘feel good’ compounds that immediately reduce your stress levels and make you feel relaxed and even happy. Even Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have reported finding this alternative therapy effective and fun!

April 24 is Scream Day, and we’re all invited to take part, but there’s more. Let this be the first day of many in which you blow off some steam. There’s no reason not to use this powerful technique to keep your stress levels in check throughout the year.

Find a nice quiet spot and scream! Try not to disturb those around you or look for a screaming booth near you — yes, that’s a thing, so don’t contain yourself. Scream all your troubles and sorrows away. Isn’t this the coolest therapy?

History of Scream Day

Neil Costa, a marketing expert, leading an advertising agency, HireClix, in Gloucester, UK, first proposed April 23 as Scream Day. The year was 2020, and people were fed up with the global Covid pandemic, debilitating economy and the overall stress of not living a normal life. The pressure was building up on a global scale.

As Mr. Costa said, “We just want people to have something that is a cathartic way to let go, and there are just not that many channels.” The core idea is screaming your stress out either in your car, in the woods or at your desk.

Scream events and similar initiatives soon became widespread, and the idea was backed up by psychotherapists and serious health institutions, including the renowned American Heart Association.

With the tags and #getthestressout, Scream Day has become a global phenomenon and a necessary one indeed.

How to Celebrate Scream Day

Screaming is also about sharing. Find a unique location where you’re not disturbing others and scream at the top of your lungs. Don’t forget to record your scream with your phone and share your ‘therapy session’ with the community.
