National Sherlock Holmes Day

Who was the detective that was famous and world-renowned? There was one iconic detective in history, and that was Sherlock Holmes. He was the hero to many, and you may even think of some people in your life that you could compare to that iconic detective. You will want to even pay attention to that even more on National Sherlock Holmes Day.

May 22nd is the day to think about Sherlock Holmes as it is National Sherlock Holmes Day. Why does Sherlock Holmes have a day decided for him? Because, why not? Did you read all of the Sherlock Holmes stories back when you were in school or even later than that? If not, this is the day to do that, as that is the day dedicated to the series. The character was popular and respected because of having the incredible ability to draw significant conclusions from making short observations.

Perhaps you know someone in your life who you could compare to Sherlock Holmes. Maybe they are good at problem-solving and finding clues themselves. Perhaps they are great when it comes to unraveling any mystery that very few people can unravel. Maybe you know of a detective who has a stressful job of digging into problems and personal lives of suspects and troublemakers for a living. They deserve to have a day dedicated to them, too, which is why National Sherlock Holmes Day is the perfect day for that.

You can even think of a surgeon or a specialist because of having to conclude health problems that so many people have. That is the day to celebrate them too.

The History Of National Sherlock Holmes Day

The author of the Sherlock Holmes series, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, had a birthday on May 22nd, which is why the day was chosen. The character of Sherlock Holmes was inspired by a surgeon at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh named Joseph Bell. Doyle worked with him as an assistant, and Doyle liked that he was able to draw significant conclusions from short observations. A policeman inspired Doyle to come up with the character, and the first story appeared in print in 1887. Since then, the series took off and is still very popular among many schools and adults who like to read the series.
