National Go Barefoot Day

Do you like the idea of running on the grass barefoot? There is something about that which sounds refreshing, and why not take off your socks and shoes when you go out to the yard and run around in your bare feet. There is a day for that, which is National Go Barefoot Day.

June 1st is the day when you are urged to kick off your shoes and socks and go outside in your bare feet as it is National Go Barefoot Day. Sure, the feeling of you walking on the grass may sound refreshing, but there is a better reason that you will want to run around outside in your bare feet. That is because others out there are not nearly as privileged as you are that do not have access to shoes.

You can take the opportunity to donate shoes to underprivileged children worldwide, which is what this national day is about, as it encourages you to do that. Therefore, go through your used shoes but are in good condition, so it is usable, and send it to various charities for kids who cannot afford to wear a good pair of shoes. Even though the idea of going bare feet in your grass on your property sounds fun, those who don’t have access to shoes will come in contact with harsh elements on the ground, such as rocks, glass, and other dangerous objects that can severely injure their feet. That is why you want to ensure that this is the day to donate these kids your old but usable shoes.

History Of National Go Barefoot Day

After the 2004 Tsunami disaster, there were many people left without necessities which were also shoes. The organization Soles4Souls ended up establishing National Go Barefoot Day for the sake of others donating their old and usable shoes to those who don’t have the means to afford shoes or who have lost their shoes in disasters. Donations have been coming in strong since the day was established. Over 40 million pairs of shoes have been donated everywhere in the world since 2005, and that figure will only increase. Therefore, on days such as this particular national day, you will see an uptick in donations.
