National Flip-Flop Day

Do you have a favorite pair of flip-flops that you like to walk around with when you go to the beach or at the waterpark, then you should wear them with pride? Everyone has a favorite pair of those thong-style sandals, and you want to celebrate them on National Flip-Flop Day.

June 18th or the third Friday of June is the day to celebrate your thong-style sandals because it is National Flip-Flop Day. These sandals are not new, and they have been around for thousands of years, but any flat-soled sandal that features straps that wrap around the first two toes and over the foot has not been around for very long. They are called ‘flip-flops’ because they sound like they flop when you walk. The soles meet the floor or ground as you walk, and it creates a slapping sound.

You would not have a reason to wear flip-flops when you are going indoors, whether you go to the mall or a building. You wear them when you go to the beach, to the waterpark, or the pool. You head over to the pool in your flip-flops and take them off as the sun heats them as you stay in your pool for a while. Once you finish being in the pool, you try your feet, and then you put your flip-flops on so your soles are protected from the hot concrete as you walk over to the lawn chair so you can sunbathe. That is why flip-flops are great as it keeps your feet protected on the bottom, but you need to put sunscreen on the top as exposed.

The History Of National Flip-Flop Day

Flip-flop day is a special time as it does not only mean you can wear them when you head to the pool, waterpark, or beach. However, Tropical Smoothie Cafe in California established the national day as the third Thursday in June to raise money for Camp Sunshine and have some fun. The establishment happened in 2007, and in 2017, Topical Smoothie went all out with its celebrations during its tenth anniversary. Aside from that, since flip-flops have been around for thousands of years, the ones you see today did not come into style until the 1960s, which means they are quite new!

How To Celebrate National Flip-Flop Day

That is an easy one as you can wear your flip-flops in your backyard or elsewhere, or head to the pool and wear them. Take a picture of them and share it on social media by using #NationalFlipFlopDay in the post.
