Today is May 11, and that means it’s Eat What You Want Day! This holiday is better than Christmas because let’s face it; no one wants to eat Brussels sprouts.
Eat What You Want Day is as simple as it sounds, it has no hidden agenda, and you’re not changing the world by participating. What you’ll certainly be doing is treating yourself with something nice to eat, probably greasy, cheesy or chocolatey, and it’s okay!
This is one of many days created to give people a reason to smile; that’s it. And it has become one of the most popular unofficial holidays on the calendar. Maybe we already eat what we want whenever we want to, but that’s not always the case. Most of us are now aware of the food that’s bad for us, or the environment, or both.
That’s what makes this day on the calendar so fun. Eat with no regrets. It’s just one day, so how bad can it be? Eat what you want and share the message; we should all know May 11 is a day to remind us that life is not all restrictions. This is a day just to go out and have a bite and eat our favorite foods, because why not?
This might sound like a joke, but keep in mind you can’t just eat what you want just because the calendar says so. If you have special medical conditions that prevent you from eating stuff, then don’t eat them. We don’t want any ‘death by cake’ casualties.
History of National Eat What You Want Day
Who thought of this glorious holiday? That would be Thomas and Ruth Roy from wellcat holidays website. A couple who trademarked a whole bunch of holidays, from Tic toc day on December 29 to Satisfied Staying Single Day on February 11.
Their most considerable success, though, is probably Eat What You Want Day, celebrated every May 11, but they’ve been making up wacky holidays since the 80s! In their own words, “Here’s one day you may actually enjoy yourself. Ignore all those on-again-off-again warnings.”
This is the day to eat what you want, which can be pretty deep. We’re told every day to avoid particular food, mainly because it’s bad for us or the environment. Still, if you were to eat whatever one day a year, that unhealthy food wouldn’t make a difference, so eat what you want! What’s wrong with that?

Go crazy here, eat what you want, and don’t let anyone judge you. Who knows, someone might end up eating a veggie or two. As the song says, don’t worry and be happy. Today we won’t judge.
