Kidney Day

How is the health of your kidneys? Are you in good health and have no reason to worry that there is anything wrong with your kidneys, or are you missing your kidneys and relying on dialysis? The focus on this national holiday is your kidneys because it is Kidney Day.

March 11th is the day when you focus on your kidneys’ health, as it is Kidney Day. Those who have reduced kidney function or non-functional kidneys will appreciate the focus of this day because they are either on dialysis, are waiting for a kidney transplant, or are going for other treatments if their kidneys have some function. This is the day to spread awareness about why it is essential to keep your kidneys as healthy as possible and prevent and manage conditions that can cause harm to the kidneys.

You need your kidneys to remove waste from your body through urine, and if your kidneys do not function properly, then harmful toxins will build up in your body. That is why you want to increase your chances of keeping your kidneys perfectly functional. Conditions such as diabetes and chronic hypertension can increase your chances of developing Chronic Kidney Disease or CKD.

Therefore, it is essential to stick to a healthy diet and keep yourself active to reduce your chances of developing those conditions. You may be genetically predisposed to them, and if you end up with either of those conditions, even if you care for yourself, as long as you keep monitoring your health and managing yourself, your kidneys will be okay.

History Of Kidney Day

Kidney Day is not necessarily observed on March 11th as it is observed on the second Thursday of March, which happens to be March 11th in 2021. This national day began in 2006 as the International Society of Nephrology and the International Federation of Kidney Foundations teamed together and had 66 countries observe this day. The purpose of Kidney Day is to raise awareness of kidney health and how to keep your kidneys healthy. And if you are unable to keep your kidneys healthy, the ones who organized this national day would share awareness of treatments and solutions to maintain good kidney health if possible. Sometimes dialysis is the only option.

How To Acknowledge Kidney Day

There are a number of ways to acknowledge the national day. If you have a kidney condition, spread awareness about it and how you are treating it. If you are in good health, talk about how you are taking care of yourself to maintain good health. Whatever you choose to do, you will want to share what you do on social media by including #KidneyDay in your post.
