Biographers Day

When you read a biography of someone, you will find it interesting because sometimes the stories behind the lives of politicians, celebrities, famous CEOs, scientists, and so on are fascinating. However, do you really think about the work that the biographer puts into it? If not, then you will want to acknowledge that on Biographers Day.

May 16th is the day to learn about the interesting facts of biographies and give biographers credit as it is Biographers Day. This is the day that also commemorates the biographer’s history as well, and it encourages you to learn about the lives of others who are influential. One thing to know is that the benefits of biography are that it is written from the perspective of a third person. You will learn how the individual was affected in ways that you would not have imagined. Therefore, reading a biography of someone who you find interesting or admire can surprise you based on the things you learn about their past.

For instance, if you are reading the biography of someone successful, you would likely be surprised to learn that they experienced many failures and other hardships unimaginable. Reading biographies are good for teaching others empathy and will provide a perspective for those who struggle with envy. Those who appear to have it all on the outside struggle with so much and have other challenges unimaginable in reality that you do not see. If you are reading about someone who passed away, you will learn about the historical influences they had on society before their time.

The History Of Biographers Day

Biographies existed for a long time going back to 44 BC as Cornelius Nepos wrote the first one as he wrote biographies of Roman and Greek generals. You would also read biographies written by monks, hermits, and priests during the Medieval Times as they were often written for the Catholic Church and many Islamic cultures. However, the history of this day was based on the meeting that James Boswell had with Samuel Johnson as Boswell published the biography called The Life Of Samuel Johnson in 1791. At that time, that biography was one of the best ones written which is why it has so much influence.
