When you hear about taking recreational drugs, you think of someone who has an addiction and ruins their lives. However, medications have so many unique attributes, and even low doses of recreational drugs can be helpful legally and beneficially. They are components of prescription drugs we take, and the day to celebrate them is on Bicycle Day.
April 19th is the day to open your mind about drugs as it is Bicycle Day. Why would a day devoted to the celebration of drugs be named after a bike? There is a story there that will be discussed in the history section. However, the one drug that this day acknowledges is lysergic acid diethylamide or LSD. The drug causes changes in consciousness, and the one discovery made about LSD is that it is the drug that caused significant breakthroughs regarding psychiatric medicine.
The day that psychedelic communities love to observe since LSD can add so much spice to life even though it is not legal. But you don’t even need to celebrate LSD as you want to see Bicycle Day as the day to celebrate medicine in general. Medicine has been why lives are lengthened and that people can get treatments for various ailments that they suffer from regardless of their severity.
Medical breakthroughs are always exciting because when it comes to finding a treatment for a disease to help the sufferer live a decent life – that can make a massive difference in that individual’s life. So you have to wonder how a day to celebrate drugs ended up becoming a day named after a two-tired pedal-driven vehicle. Let’s go over that now.
The History Of Bicycle Day
Swiss scientist Albert Hoffman was the one who synthesized LSD in 1938. He did it so he could try to invent a stimulant to treat circulatory and respiratory ailments. He was not aware of the psychedelic effects. On a bath he synthesized, he decided to take in 250 mcg of the drug on April 19th of 1943. He knew that the trip back home would be difficult after he took the drug and asked an assistant to help him get home. Since cars were not allowed during the war, they rode on a bike, so the name of the day to commemorate LSD and drugs is called Bicycle Day.
How To Acknowledge Bicycle Day
No one is encouraging anyone to go on an acid trip, but why not put on some psychedelic music such as listening to Sky with Diamonds from a Beatles which is about LSD. Or, if you are brave enough to talk about the drugs you take for a condition, why not talk about it on social media? You can use #BicycleDay for the hashtag in the post.
